Fans eagerly anticipating the new Alien TV series from Noah Hawley will likely have to wait until 2025 for its premiere. Hawley, known for his work on Fargo, has been developing this eagerly awaited show for FX on Hulu. However, due to a series of setbacks, including the current SAG-AFTRA strike and earlier delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the production schedule has been significantly disrupted.
The series, initially set to begin shooting in 2022, faced its first major delay due to the pandemic. Finally, in July 2023, production commenced in Thailand. Despite these challenges, Hawley and his team managed to film most of the first hour of the series. Yet, the involvement of American actress Sydney Chandler, a key cast member and SAG-AFTRA affiliate, has been hampered by the ongoing actors’ strike.

For only the second time since mid-June, Suits is not the No. 1 title in Nielsen’s streaming rankings.
That honor belongs to Netflix’s The Fall of the House of Usher, which snagged the top spot for the week of Oct. 9-15. Writer-director Mike Flanagan’s spin on the titular Edgar Allan Poe story (and several others by the author) drew 1.23 billion minutes of viewing, edging out the 1.13 billion for Suits.
The latter series continued its months-long run above the billion-minute mark, however, and has now compiled almost 44.4 billion minutes (about 739.8 million hours) of viewing on Netflix and Peacock since it first hit the rankings in June. Nielsen notes that viewing of Suits’ ninth and final season, which is only available on Peacock, accounted for 6 percent of the weekly tally (about 67.6 million minutes) — the highest percentage for those episodes since the other eight seasons debuted on Netflix.

Jeopardy! fans are reacting to an off-hand comment made by host Ken Jennings in one of the show’s latest episodes. During the November 9 game, Jennings spoke to competitor Jen Jazwinski, who shared an anecdote about her grandmother during the break in the first round of the game. The youth services librarian from Algonquin, Illinois opened up about the influence of her grandmother in her life. As a returning champion, Jazwinski said of her initial victory, “When I did that, her entire home where she lives was watching, and they stood and gave her a standing ovation during that part of the show.” She went on to add, “So that was a really special moment for her and for me.” The story prompted Jennings to reply, “That’s great. And that means a lot in assisted living. Standing up: not easy… for all those people.” The offhanded comment elicited some laughter from the audience,...

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) reported that he died in Billings, Montana, on November 7. After concluding his time in the astronaut corps, Borman led Eastern Airlines during the tumultuous period of the 1970s and early ‘80s, according to NASA. The end of the 118-day SAG-AFTRA strike isn’t just resuscitating the U.S. film and TV business, it’s also bringing back to life a raft of productions set in Europe. While European players, including financiers, producers, crew members, commissions and actors are rejoicing about the end of the historically long strike, many are also concerned about the probable bottleneck effect...

The premise of The Curse sounds like something any of us could have come up with from the comfort of our couch: How does an HGTV home-renovation couple in the Chip and Joanna Gaines mold operate when the cameras are off? With their new Showtime series, auteurs Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie imagine such a couple descending into a hell of their own making, where their faux-progressive housing innovations and faux-ideal marriage threaten to crumble under the weight of their complete moral bankruptcy. It's a show that is heavy on ambience, features at least one dynamite performance, and can be riveting on a scene-by-scene basis. But like its lead characters, it ultimately falls victim to its own hollowness.

The historic 118-day strike ended at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, just in time for Chalamet to promote his upcoming movie “Wonka” — while promoting his appearance on “SNL” on Saturday. “Willy Wonka, chocolate, chocolate man, Willy Wonka, chocolate,” he says again in the “SNL” promo, unable to contain his excitement for the strike ending.

With anime’s fall season having already kickstarted this October, November is a quieter time for the medium. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t great options to be thankful for this month.
For starters, this month brings the theatrical premiere of the most anticipated anime event of the year. “The Boy and the Heron” is Hayao Miyazaki’s newest film — and supposedly the master director’s last. The Studio Ghibli movie, named “How Do You Live?” in Japan, has been shrouded in secrecy due to its unusual Japanese release strategy in which no plot details or trailers were released ahead of launch. But the film, about a boy living in Japan during World War II who stumbles upon a window into a completely new world, received critical acclaim out of its North American TIFF premiere and is being hailed as one of the best films of the year.

Disney is gearing up for a fresh chapter with Hulu as the company is in the final stages of purchasing the streamer. As the full owner of the entity, Disney plans to launch a beta app in December that will combine Disney+ and Hulu into a single streaming experience for bundle subscribers, according to Variety. Disney CEO Bob Iger reportedly shared the news, but in tie things up on Hulu, Disney still needs to close a deal with Comcast to buy out NBCUniversal’s 33 percent stake in Hulu. In order to stake that claim, Disney is prepared to pay $8.61 billion to Comcast and Hulu in addition to the original price tag. (Credit: Hulu) “We remain on track to roll out a more unified one-app experience domestically, making extensive general entertainment content available to bundle subscribers via Disney+,” Iger stated during a September quarter earnings call, per Variety. After six months of strikes, the primetime cupboard is pretty bare. But after a fall filled with repeats, unscripted series and a smattering of stockpiled scripted episodes, the broadcast networks are racing to salvage the rest of the TV season — and that means a scramble to get episodes in place by the start of 2024.
It’s not as easy as flipping a light switch, of course. But now that the SAG-AFTRA strike is over, allowing for cameras to start rolling again, audiences may have some burning questions on what it all means. Here, Variety tackles some of them.

NBCUniversal has laid off less than 50 employees across three divisions: Peacock marketing, NBCUniversal Entertainment and ad sales.
The majority of these cuts, approximately 30 to 40, were made at Peacock as part of a restructuring under CMO Shannon Willett, a source within the company told Variety.
The insider says the layoffs are not part of a cost-cutting initiative at the Comcast-owned company, but rather a revamp of the vision for the department that will see Willett fill almost all of these roles with new staffers. The Peacock marketing team is being broken into five business areas under Willett: Brand Creative and...

SAG-AFTRA had settled dozens of issues, ranging from pension and health contributions, to page limits for self-taped auditions, to pay for background actors.
But there was still the small matter of zombies.
The union was worried that studios could use artificial intelligence to reanimate dead actors, or to create a digital Frankenstein out of the body parts of real actors.
Those were among the last deal points to fall into place before the union could end its 118-day strike on Wednesday.
In the end, SAG-AFTRA did not get every AI restriction it was looking for. But it did get most of it,...

Spartacus is returning. Starz has greenlit 10 episodes of Spartacus: House of Ashur. The drama series will expand on the franchise, which aired four seasons (including a prequel miniseries) on the network. Nick Tarabay will be reprising his role as the villainous Ashur, whom he played in the series’ original run. Spartacus creator, writer, and executive producer Steven S. DeKnight will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Starz describes the series as “a history-bending, erotic, thrilling, roller-coaster experience that builds on everything that made the original series a colossal hit. The series poses the question: what if Ashur, played by fan favorite Nick Tarabay, hadn’t died on Mount Vesuvius at the end of Spartacus: Vengeance? And what if he had been gifted the gladiator school once owned by Batiatus in return for aiding the Romans in killing Spartacus and putting an end to the slave rebellion?” Spartacus: Blood and Sand...

The television industry won’t waste any time when it comes to getting back to work following the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike. With a focus on broadcast shows, prep and pre-production are well underway.

Any artist will tell you that “making it” is a myth. Whether it’s music, dance, acting, writing, or anything else — there’s no point at which most people with a creative passion feel it entirely achieved and therefore no longer a priority. Ambition is a hungry beast with a growing appetite, and the standards for success change at every level — and differ between friends and collaborators, testing them every step of the way.
It’s a truth baked into Issa Rae’s “Rap Sh!t,” which premiered its second season on November 9. Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion) are officially going on tour as a group, still miles from the kind of fame and acclaim they dream of, but clearly moving forward, even with a few steps back. “Rap Sh!t,” like “Atlanta” before it, doesn’t shy away from the girls’ increasing respect and access, but reminds viewers that the hardship isn’t over.
